Les Tours Ambulantes (FR)
*French version
Les Tours Ambulantes (FR), known internationally as Wandering Towers, turns a simple wizard race into a delightful puzzle of memory, movement and mischievous plays. The students of a magic school must reach the dungeon, but there is one problem: their potion bottles are empty. To complete their challenge, your wizards must reach their destination while collecting enough magical essence to fill their precious bottles.
On your turn, your cards let you move a wizard or a tower. This is where this memory game reveals its magic: towers can be stacked on top of one another, trapping any wizards underneath. Whenever you trap one or more wizards, you fill a potion bottle. Sometimes hiding an opponent is exactly what you need, and sometimes even your own wizard may disappear beneath a tower. Several turns later, will you still remember where everyone is hiding?
The towers themselves travel around the path, carrying anything standing on top of them. When a wizard reaches the dungeon, the dungeon moves as well, constantly changing the layout of the game. Filled potion bottles can also be used to activate spells that provide additional movement. To win, you must get your final wizard into the dungeon after filling all your bottles. This blend of family strategy game, memory and racing creates surprising turns without making the rules difficult to learn.
You will enjoy Les Tours Ambulantes if you want a family board game that is easy to teach while remaining clever enough to keep adults engaged. Kids can immediately enjoy the spectacle of stacking and moving towers, while experienced players can focus on anticipating movement, tracking hidden wizards and using the right spell at the perfect moment. Solo, cooperative and additional variants also provide different ways to enjoy the game.
Known internationally as Wandering Towers, the game won a Mensa Select award in 2024. The distinction is awarded through American Mensa's Mind Games competition, where games are evaluated on qualities including concept, level of challenge and design. It is fitting recognition for a wizard board game that combines approachable rules with remarkably clever play.
The game was designed by Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling, two acclaimed designers who have collaborated on several notable titles, including Tikal and Renature. The artwork is by Michael Menzel, a prolific board game illustrator who is also known as the creator of the Andor series. His colourful fantasy artwork gives the wandering towers, young wizards and magical setting their distinctive personality.
