The streets of Arkham are quiet, but behind the closed doors of its old houses, something is waiting for you. Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition (FR), sold here as Les Demeures de l'Épouvante, is a cooperative board game of horror and investigation for one to five players. You play investigators who venture into haunted mansions and other sinister places to uncover strange secrets, solve devious puzzles and face monsters and supernatural dangers. Each scenario tells a different story: you explore an unpredictable board, resist terrifying events and try to keep your sanity intact by carefully combining skills, abilities and items. The game takes place in the same universe as Eldritch Horror and Elder Sign, and the app replaces the game master: it guides you through the story, reveals the mysteries as you explore and speeds up setup, which also makes solo games much easier.

Mansions of Madness is for you if you love dark, Lovecraftian atmospheres, scenarios full of twists and cooperative games where every decision counts. You will probably enjoy this game if you want an immersive investigation, solo or with up to four friends, without needing a game master at the table. Plan a full evening: a game lasts two to three hours.

Interesting fact: this second edition collected many nominations in 2016, including the Golden Geek awards (best cooperative game, best solo game, best thematic game and best artwork and presentation) and the Meeples' Choice Award. It also includes a conversion kit that lets fans of the first edition reuse their investigators, monsters and tiles.

The game was designed by Nikki Valens, based on the original game by Corey Konieczka. The illustrations are by Magali Villeneuve, Yoann Boissonnet, Cristi Balanescu, Anders Finér, Tony Foti and Jacob Murray, who bring the mansions and their horrors to life.

What you need to play: the free Mansions of Madness app is required. It can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play or the Amazon Appstore, so plan on a compatible mobile device.
