Once Upon a Time (FR) invites you to become, for one evening, the sharpest storyteller at the table. Each player is dealt a hand of Character, Place, Object and Event cards drawn straight from classic fairy tale imagery: a crown, a witch, a lonely castle, an unexpected kiss. In turn, the active storyteller improvises a tale by weaving in their cards one by one, quietly steering the plot toward their own secret Ending card. The other players stay sharp: the moment a mentioned element matches a card in their hand, they can interrupt and steal the story to become the new storyteller. This fast-paced card game blends improvisation, a dash of strategy and guaranteed laughter, and every session spins a completely different fairy tale, sometimes touching, sometimes downright silly. A staple of game nights and even French classrooms, Il etait une fois is THE creative party game where the only limit is the players' imagination around the table.

Il etait une fois left its mark on the hobby: a finalist for the prestigious Origins Award (Children's, Family, or Party Game category), a Parents Choice Recommended Award winner and a Tillywig Best Family Fun Award winner, the game was even featured on Wil Wheaton's TableTop show. It also appears on GAMES Magazine's list of the best family card games and in the book Hobby Games: The 100 Best, which ranks the hundred greatest games in hobby gaming history.

The game is signed by Richard Lambert, Andrew Rilstone and James Wallis, the latter also known as the creator of the celebrated improvisation game The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, another classic where storytelling flair matters more than rules. The whimsical card artwork is the work of Omar Rayyan, an artist also known for his work on Magic: The Gathering and numerous children's books.
