*French version
Encyclopédie des Monstres (FR) is a cooperative memory game that takes young adventurers on a journey across the globe to discover legendary creatures, spirits, and monsters inspired by folklore from many different cultures. More than a traditional memory game, it combines exploration, teamwork, and learning in a richly immersive family experience.
Presented as five beautifully illustrated encyclopedia volumes representing the world's five continents, the game includes fifteen unique countries to explore. Every continent introduces new rules, fresh challenges, and iconic local creatures. As players progress through the collection, the difficulty gradually increases, making the game engaging for both younger children and more experienced players.
During each turn, players attempt to match one of their Monster cards with the correct hidden token. Whenever the search fails, one candle is extinguished and every creature hides once again, encouraging the team to rely on observation and memory. Special Monster abilities constantly introduce new twists, while limited communication creates rewarding cooperative challenges that encourage players to think together in new ways.
Encyclopédie des Monstres (FR) is also an educational experience. Each booklet shares fascinating information about the countries visited, their traditions, and the legendary creatures that inhabit their folklore, developed with the participation of anthropologists and local specialists from around the world. Every game becomes an opportunity to learn while having fun.
You will enjoy Encyclopédie des Monstres if you are looking for a family board game that combines memory, cooperation, and cultural discovery. Children will love the colourful artwork and evolving challenges, while adults will appreciate exploring myths and legends from around the world alongside younger players.
Designed by Antoine Bauza, creator of acclaimed games including 7 Wonders, Hanabi, and Takenoko, alongside Corentin Lebrat (Draftosaurus) and Théo Rivière (Detective Charlie, The Mice House), the game is beautifully illustrated by Maud Chalmel, whose artwork brings every legendary creature to life.
