The large “sardine tin” cards are placed face down in a pile in the center of the table. Each player receives five small "sardine" cards which he keeps face down. A “sardine can” card is turned over: the players then have a few seconds to memorize this card before it is turned over again. Players look at their 5 cards, then place in front of them the sardines they think they saw in the box.
Each player wins the cards whose sardines were actually present in the box; for any error, they return a won card. When the deck is exhausted, whoever has the most sardines wins the game.
