300 years ago, the wizard Archibald looked at his army of stone golems and said: “Come on, let’s march!” He didn’t say where. Or until when. The golems have been marching ever since. They’ve gone around the kingdom 41 times. They’ve worn out three roads and a bridge.
Archibald is now 340 years old, has bad knees and zero ideas for stopping them. A golem order can’t be cancelled. It can only be completed. So they had to arrive somewhere. Anywhere.
(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: Archibald tried “Stop,” “Halt,” “Sit” and “Please.” The last one made a golem cry. It kept marching.)
He went to see Anatole, the capital’s clockmaker, whose time machine only goes back ten minutes. Anatole thought about it for a long time, then sold Archibald a shortcut through time: a little door drawn in chalk on the wall of the Clock Tower. “It cuts through the past. Your golems will get there faster.”
The 300 golems went through the door. They arrived 300 years ago, at the exact moment a very young, very proud Archibald was finishing the words “Come on, let’s march!” Young Archibald saw 300 golems step out of a wall, followed by an old man who looked a lot like him and was yelling “NO!” He panicked. He pointed at everyone and shouted: “Come on, let’s march!”
There are now 600 of them. They’re still marching. But technically, according to Anatole, they’ve already arrived, since they left after coming back. Archibald asked for a refund. Anatole said he’d already refunded him, in ten minutes.
(The Dungeon Master, writing it down in their notebook: Archibald added one detail to the order. “Not too fast.” The golems slowed down. That makes 600 slow golems. It’s worse.)
Going back through the door, the golems left dust everywhere: stone black, road gray, chalk white and a purple glow, the colour of time when you fold it. Anatole swept it up and cast it into seven striped dice. The Un raccourci dans le temps dice (“a shortcut through time”) were born, perfect for wizards in a hurry and players who want to reach the end of the dungeon before they’ve even walked in.
With their bands of black, gray, white and purple resin, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that’s always on time. Sometimes even early.
