Ottilie is an explorer. She searched the Temple of a Thousand Flowers, in the southern jungle, and came out with a sacred idol… and the giant stone ball that rolls after thieves. The ball has never let her go. It follows her everywhere. It now lives in her backyard. Ottilie named it Galette.
This year, the Royal Geographic Society challenged every explorer in the kingdom: find the Middle Land, the exact point at the centre of the kingdom. Whoever found it would have their name carved on a marble column, forever. Ottilie took her hat, her compass and her rope. Galette followed.
(The Dungeon Master, without looking up from the screen: twelve explorers set out. They had maps, compasses and learned calculations. Ottilie had a two-ton stone ball that always rolls toward the lowest point. It is not the same method at all.)
The other explorers calculated for weeks. They measured, counted, triangulated. They all ended up in different places: a turnip field, a mountain, the middle of a lake, the bedroom of a very surprised baron. Ottilie followed Galette. Galette rolled for nine days, through forests, villages and rivers, politely avoiding the houses.
On the tenth day, Galette stopped in the middle of a little green and blue clearing, by a stream. It didn’t want to move anymore. Ottilie planted a flag. The royal geographers arrived with their instruments. They measured. They recalculated. They measured again. It was the exact centre of the kingdom, to the centimetre.
They asked Ottilie for her secret. She explained: the kingdom tilts a tiny bit toward the middle, like a bowl. A rolling ball always ends up at the bottom. The geographers were so impressed that they carved two names on the marble column: “Ottilie” and “Galette.”
(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: Galette now refuses to leave the clearing. Ottilie had to move there. She says it’s very convenient: it’s the same distance from everything. She’s still late everywhere.)
In the clearing’s stream, Ottilie found seven pebbles swirled with green, blue and white, with golden glints, the exact colours of the heart of the kingdom. The Terre du milieu dice (“middle land”) were born. They’re perfect for epic quests, stubborn explorers and players who always end up finding the way… even by accident.
In green, blue and white swirled acrylic with gold numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that always brings you back to the heart of the adventure.
