Léopold is a halfling. He’s afraid of everything: spiders, drafts, horses, stairs and, more than anything in the world, the dark. He sleeps with eleven candles lit. Once, at the Thirsty Dwarf tavern, Brunhilde the tavern keeper served him a glass of “liquid courage.” It was orange juice. It worked anyway.

One winter evening, Léopold had to walk home through the forest, with no moon. He got scared before he even put on his coat. He went up to the counter and asked Brunhilde, in a tiny voice, for something “so I won’t be afraid of the dark.”

(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: Brunhilde does not serve “trendy drinks.” Ever. Her highest compliment is “Not bad.” She looked at Léopold for a long time. He was shaking so hard his glass rattled on the counter.)

Brunhilde sighed. She took out a tall glass. She poured orange juice, then a splash of pomegranate syrup that sank to the bottom in a red, orange and yellow gradient, like a sunrise. Then she added a drop from a little vial she keeps under the counter for emergencies. The drink began to glow. For real. Yellow and orange, like a lantern.

“A Tequila Sunrise,” she said. “Without tequila.” Léopold drank it in one go. He began to glow softly from the inside, like a night light. He walked out into the dark forest, all lit up. The wolves saw him coming and ran away: they had never seen a glow-in-the-dark halfling. The owls followed him so they could see better. He got home singing.

The next day, half the village came to the tavern to order a Tequila Sunrise. Brunhilde refused everyone. “It’s not a trendy drink. It’s a drink for Léopold.” She added a line to the menu, written in chalk: “Tequila Sunrise: prescription only.”

(The Dungeon Master, trying not to laugh: Léopold isn’t afraid of the dark anymore. Now he’s afraid of not glowing. He comes by the tavern every evening at 5 p.m. Brunhilde serves his drink without him asking. She says he’s “not bad” as customers go.)

At the bottom of Léopold’s glass were seven little yellow and orange ice cubes that never melted and still glow in the dark. The Tequila Sunrise dice were born. They’re perfect for games that end at dawn, fearful heroes and players who need a little light when the room goes dark.

In yellow and orange acrylic that glows in the dark, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that lights up your table, even at 3 a.m.
