Everyone knows Mamie Ginette: 94 years old, flowered apron, former level 20 adventurer, who won three wars in four minutes without taking off her apron. What few people know is that Mamie Ginette is afraid of only one person in the world. Her little sister. Tante Rita (“Aunt Rita”). 89 years old.
Tante Rita doesn’t fight. Tante Rita has never held a sword. Tante Rita organizes family reunions. Every year, she sends the invitations six months in advance, with a seating plan, a dress code and a list of forbidden topics. The invitations are pink. They smell of perfume. Nobody has ever dared to say no.
(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: the last person who told Tante Rita “I won’t be able to make it” was a distant cousin, in 1987. He came. Nobody knows how. He doesn’t remember himself.)
This year, the reunion was at Mamie Ginette’s. Ginette had made her cookies, her roast and her 48 traps, as usual. Tante Rita arrived at 7 a.m. with three suitcases and a whistle. By 7:05, she had moved all the furniture. By 7:30, she had disarmed all 48 traps, “because the children will get hurt.” By 8:00, she had tasted Ginette’s cookies and said: “They were better last year.”
Mamie Ginette went pale. The whole family held its breath. Nobody had ever criticized Ginette’s cookies and survived. Ginette gripped her rolling pin. Tante Rita took out her whistle. They stared at each other for two long minutes in the middle of the kitchen, like two gunslingers in Dernier-Recours.
Then Tante Rita smiled. She took a jar out of her suitcase. “I brought you raspberry jam. Put some in. It’ll be perfect.” Ginette tasted. She thought for a long time. Then she said, very quietly: “Not bad.” It was the first time in 89 years they had agreed on anything.
(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: the reunion went off without a single incident, in perfect order, to the minute. The cousins say it was the best family reunion in history. They all say it very quickly, looking at Tante Rita.)
When she left, Tante Rita left seven translucent pink dice on the table, the exact colour of her invitations. “For your games. I’ll be back next year.” The Tante Rita dice were born. They’re perfect for formidable organizers, big families and players who know you never say no to an aunt.
In translucent pink acrylic with white numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that’s always on time and expects you to be there.
