Sauce béchamel Dice - 7D Set

Beneath the Academy of Magic lies the exam dungeon. And in the exam dungeon lives Philibert, the gelatinous cube. His job: to be an obstacle for students during their exams. His dream: to become a dessert. He has been peach-coloured ever since he swallowed a crate of peaches, and he thinks it suits him.

One Friday, lasagna day, the cafeteria’s big pot of béchamel slipped, went through the kitchen trapdoor and landed three floors down. Right on Philibert. Fifty litres of béchamel. Philibert was white, creamy, steaming, smelling of nutmeg. For the first time in his life, he looked appetizing.

(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: You enter the exam dungeon. A gelatinous cube covered in béchamel is looking at you. Roll Perception. It smells like nutmeg. Roll Wisdom not to go get a fork.)

The afternoon exam was a disaster. The students were supposed to defeat the cube. They showed up with forks. One student asked if there was any melted cheese on top. Philibert was over the moon: at last, someone found him tasty.

Then Dame Fraisine came down. Dame Fraisine, the cafeteria cook, who once drove back an army of orcs with a ladle. She had come for her béchamel. She looked Philibert up and down, tasted with the tip of her ladle and delivered her verdict: “This isn’t a dessert. It’s a main course.”

Philibert trembled all over. Then he understood: a main course is the dish everyone waits for all day. Dame Fraisine hired him. Every Friday, he comes up to the cafeteria, covered in béchamel, to show the way to the lasagna line. That day, while cleaning the pot, she found something impossible: seven lumps. Dame Fraisine never makes lumps. Seven white, pearly lumps, glittering with golden nutmeg, hard as stone.

(The Dungeon Master, trying not to laugh: Dame Fraisine denies making lumps. If you show her the dice, she says they’re “decorative dumplings.” Three students were sent to her office for asking.)
