Power Raid Dice - 7D Set

Cendrin is a clerk at La Halte, the general store at the Crossroads of Important Decisions, just before the road to the Dungeon of the Dead. He has a chainsaw arm, a salesman’s smile and a motto: “Shop smart. Shop at La Halte.” No receipt. No refund.

One spring, Cendrin decided to launch a new product. A bottled, neon orange drink for adventurers heading out on a raid. He called it Power Raid. The label read: “Restores 1 hit point and 8 points of enthusiasm.” Nobody bought it. Adventurers preferred water. Water, at least, didn’t glow in the dark.

(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: You drink a Power Raid. You regain 1 hit point. You also feel like running to the next kingdom. Roll Constitution to stay seated.)

As a promotion, Cendrin gave a free sample to the first customer of the day: Gnollbert, the gnoll from the Cackling Hills who never stops talking (his echo quit). Gnollbert drank the bottle in one gulp. Then he started talking twice as fast. Then three times as fast. Then so fast that the words arrived before he opened his mouth.

Still talking, Gnollbert set off alone toward the Dungeon of the Dead. The skeletons rose to attack him. Gnollbert told them about his week. Then his childhood. Then his aunt’s recipe. After twenty minutes, the skeletons lay back down in their tombs and pulled the lids shut. The Dungeon of the Dead was empty. Raid successful.

The very next day, adventurers were lining up at La Halte. Power Raid sold out in an hour. While waving his arms to tell the story of his exploit, Gnollbert knocked over the display: the last orange drops spilled onto the counter and hardened into seven translucent dice, orange as a sunset over the Crossroads.

(The Dungeon Master, trying not to laugh: Gnollbert finished his sentence yesterday. He started it in May. Cendrin added a line to the label: “Do not give to gnolls.” Still no refunds.)
