Lalou was a bard. But not like other bards. He didn’t play heroic ballads, drinking songs or war chants. Lalou played hold music. Soft, mushy little melodies that went around in circles. The kind of music you forget while you’re listening to it.

Taverns fired him after one evening. Nobody danced. Nobody drank. Customers fell asleep on the tables, very calm, and left without tipping. One innkeeper told him: “You play like a waiting room.”

(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: Lalou plays his lute. Make a saving throw against boredom. Failure. You don’t fall asleep. You just become very, very patient.)

And that’s how Lalou found the job of his life: official musician of the waiting room at the Ministry of Twilight, in the capital. Where people sometimes wait for weeks to get a form stamped. Nocturnin, the bureaucrat vampire who has been stamping form C-27 for 312 years, couldn’t believe it. For the first time, nobody complained at the counter. People waited smiling, eyes half closed, tapping along.

Then one day, a dragon came into the capital. A real one, red and furious, who wanted to burn down the Ministry because his nesting permit had been refused. He smashed through the waiting room door. Lalou kept playing. The dragon hesitated. He listened. He calmed down. Then he took a number and sat down.

(The Dungeon Master, writing it down in their notebook: The dragon has number 4,212. The Ministry is up to number 37. The dragon is still waiting. He says he’s starting to like the music.)

After floating around the waiting room for years, Lalou’s notes had piled up under the ceiling in purple, green and white swirls, until one morning they fell as seven marbled dice. The Musique d’ascenseur dice (“elevator music”) were born. Soft, soothing and a little hypnotic, they’re perfect for bards, bureaucrats and players who always wait their turn patiently.

With their marbled purple, green and white acrylic and black numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that calms even dragons.
