Mirza was the fastest blade in the kingdom. A rogue who could cut a purse, a rope and a lock of hair in a single motion, without anyone noticing. One day, she accepted the best-paying contract of her career: steal Granny Ginette’s secret recipe.
Granny Ginette is 94, wears a flowered apron and has a past as a level 20 adventurer she refuses to talk about. Mirza disarmed all 47 traps in the basement. She resisted the warm cookies. She opened the chest. And a small voice behind her said: “Good evening, sweetie.”
(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: Granny Ginette doesn’t attack you. She doesn’t shout. She doesn’t call the guard. She hands you a potato peeler. That’s worse.)
“You scared my cookies,” said Granny. “You’ll pay me back. Ten thousand potatoes.” Mirza burst out laughing. Granny didn’t. The next morning, Mirza was sitting in the kitchen in front of a mountain of potatoes. She didn’t have a peeler. She had her dagger.
She peeled at incredible speed. The peel fell in a single perfect spiral. The potatoes came out smooth as pebbles. Chefs from the capital came to watch through the window. A fancy restaurant wanted to hire her. Granny answered: “She isn’t finished.” The problem was, the debt never went down. Granny also counted the coffee. And the cookies. And “the time spent keeping an eye on her.”
When Mirza finally peeled her ten-thousandth potato, Granny Ginette gave her dagger back… melted down and cast into seven crystal dice, streaked with red like her homemade tomato sauce, with a little copper blade in each one. “So you remember. And because a dagger is lousy for peeling potatoes.”
(The Dungeon Master, trying not to laugh: Mirza paid off her debt. She still comes back every Sunday to peel potatoes. She says it’s for the coffee. Granny says she has finally found an apprentice.)
The L’épluche patates dice (“the potato peeler”) were born. Clear, streaked with red, with a little blade in every die, they’re perfect for rogues, reformed thieves and all the players who always end up helping in the kitchen.
With their clear resin streaked with red and a copper blade inside each die, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG), especially if you play a rogue. A dice set as sharp as a blade.
