Le Hollandais Volant Dice - 7D Set

Captain Maarten commanded the Flying Dutchman, the most famous ghost ship of the Sea of Mists. He was under a curse: he could never make landfall. Never. For three hundred years, he had sailed from fog to fog without ever touching a dock.

Three hundred years is a long time. He had read every book on board, learned to play the accordion (badly) and named every single wave. So one day, to keep busy, he started a business: the Flying Dutchman Delivery Service. He couldn’t dock, but he could throw parcels onto the pier as he sailed by.

(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: Delivery success rate over three hundred years: 12%. The other parcels are at the bottom of the sea. The local kraken has quite a collection.)

One misty evening, a great shadow appeared above him. A flying ship, enormous, with sails woven from starlight: the Relentless, commanded by Admiral Zorbaxe. She had ordered a parcel. And the Relentless never touched water or land. It flew.

For the first time in three centuries, Maarten didn’t need to dock. He brought his ship alongside, his ghostly crew threw a rope, and he delivered the parcel hand to hand. A perfect delivery. The Captain wept tears of mist.

In the parcel: seven clear and blue crystal dice. In each one, a tiny little ship, like a ship in a bottle. Zorbaxe had ordered them to decide her manoeuvres. She rolled one to decide the tip. She rolled a 20. She left the dice to the Captain.

(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: Customer signature: the Admiral rolled a die to decide whether to sign. She signed. Maarten framed the receipt. It’s the only one he has.)
