Ommadon was the most powerful red sorcerer in the kingdom. He could call down lightning, split mountains and turn a dragon into a lizard with a snap of his fingers. He had only one flaw: he got angry. All the time. About everything.
His tea was too hot? Fury. His candle went out? Fury. Someone spelled his name with only one “m”? Absolute fury, for three days, and the neighbouring village of Omadon-sur-Lave had to change its name (it’s now Ommadon-sur-Lave).
(The Dungeon Master, checking their notes: The sorcerer is angry. The castle shakes. The sky turns red. Oh, and he lost his slippers. That’s probably why.)
His neighbours were at their wits’ end. His tower walls were scorched, his garden was ash and his cat had moved in next door, leaving a letter. An old sage suggested a technique: every time he felt the anger rising, he should blow it into a crystal instead of onto the world.
Ommadon tried. He blew into a crystal. It turned red. He blew into a second. Bright red. A third. Lava red. By the end of the day, he had filled seven. It was a Tuesday. An ordinary Tuesday.
He cut the seven crystals into dice and engraved white numbers on them. Then he rolled them. 1. He got angry. The D20 cracked a little. He rolled again. 20. He got angry anyway, because he felt it came too late.
