Mochi is a panda. She is the Official Guardian of the Bamboo Garden of the East, the emperor’s private garden. Her job is to protect the bamboo. In practice, she eats it. She sleeps eighteen hours a day and finds that to be a very busy schedule.
One spring, the emperor received a present from Abuela Pepita, the gardening witch whose magic vegetable patch grows cucumbers by the hundred. It was a little bag of cherry tomato seeds, with a note: “Plant only one. Just one, mijo.” The emperor’s gardener didn’t read the note. He planted the whole bag.
(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: Abuela Pepita’s tomatoes don’t grow like the others. They grow fast, they ripen overnight, and when they’re ripe, they pop off on their own and roll. Everywhere. In gangs. With a certain aggressiveness.)
The next morning, Mochi was woken up by a little “plop” on her nose. A cherry tomato. Then a second one. Then a hundred. Thousands of little red, orange and yellow tomatoes poured through the garden, bouncing off the bamboo and attacking anything that moved. It was a full-blown cherry tomato attack. The gardeners fled. The carp hid at the bottom of the pond.
Mochi got up. It was her garden. She growled her most terrible growl. The tomatoes kept coming. She rolled on them to squash them: she got back up covered in sauce. She sat down in the middle of the garden, exhausted, covered in tomatoes, and to cheer herself up, she bit into a bamboo stalk. It had been soaking in the sauce. Mochi stopped chewing. It was delicious.
In the hour that followed, Mochi ate four thousand cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes realized they had met their match. They retreated, rolling at full speed toward the garden exit. The emperor arrived just in time to see Mochi, sitting in a puddle of sauce, tasting her first bamboo with tomato.
(The Dungeon Master, with a smirk: the emperor had a taste. He made bamboo with tomato the official dish of the empire. Abuela Pepita, to apologize, sent a new present: zucchini seeds. Mochi has started training.)
That evening, at the bottom of the pond, the carp found seven cherry tomatoes that had survived, now hard and shiny like candy: red, orange and yellow. The Attaque de tomates cerises dice (“cherry tomato attack”) were born. They’re perfect for gardeners, hungry pandas and players who turn every disaster into a recipe.
In translucent red, orange and yellow acrylic with white numbers, these polyhedral dice are perfect for your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or any roleplaying game (RPG). A dice set that rolls everywhere. In gangs.
