At the Thirsty Dwarf tavern, there’s a drink only Brunhilde, the tavern keeper, knows how to make: the Five Alive. Five magic citrus fruits squeezed by hand, a pinch of phoenix powder and a secret she refuses to reveal, even under torture (Gérard tried to guess it; he was thrown out).

They say anyone who drinks a Five Alive before an adventure comes back alive. Always. No matter what shape they’re in.

(The Dungeon Master, from behind the screen: Your character should be dead. They’re at 0 hit points, they’ve lost their boots and they’re on fire. But they drank a Five Alive. They get back up.)

One night, a party of five particularly unlucky adventurers ordered a round. They left to face the dragon on the mountain. They came back the next day: scorched, out of breath, broke… but alive. All five of them.

To thank them for staying loyal to the tavern, Brunhilde poured the bottom of the pitcher into an enchanted ice cube tray. The orange, yellow and red juice froze into thirty-six little cubes swirling like a sunrise over a glass of punch.
