Madame Clairevoyante ran a little purple tent at the entrance to Saint-Glinglin. “Future, love, dice results: 2 gold coins.” Her crystal ball was the most famous in the region. It had never been wrong. Well, almost never.

One day, Morgane, the level 1 witch, came to consult her. She wanted to know if she would finally pass her curses exam.

(The Dungeon Master, without looking up from the screen: The crystal ball lights up. It shows… a wet sock. I don’t know what that means. Neither does she.)

Madame Clairevoyante rubbed her ball. She blew on it. She shook it. And, in her frustration, she dropped it. The ball rolled across the table, bounced off Morgane’s teacup, and came to rest… on a flat face.

It had twenty faces. It had always had twenty faces. All those years, Madame Clairevoyante had been reading the future in a giant bubble-filled D20, with gold numbers engraved so finely they couldn’t be seen by candlelight.
