Two rival cults, one prophecy to fulfill. In Cthulhu: L'Avenement (FR), you lead a cult determined to awaken Cthulhu and the other Old Ones before your opponent does. Every Worshipper card you play extends your influence over one of four iconic locations from Lovecraft's world: Arkham, Dunwich, Innsmouth and Kingsport. On your turn, draw or play two cards from your hand or the Valley, the shared discard pile, to tip the balance of power on a location and seize control of it. Line up three cards of the same color, the same number or a run to summon a fearsome Monster or unlock a mysterious Artifact that swings the fight in your favor. As the game unfolds, the Old Ones awaken one by one and bind themselves to the locations you dominate, granting you their sinister favor. When the third Old One rises, the game ends: whichever cult controls the most locations wins this two-player duel of madness and darkness. Quick to set up and intense to play, this strategic card game wraps up in about 30 minutes, the perfect length for two players who enjoy tight showdowns steeped in cosmic horror where every single card matters.

Cthulhu: L'Avenement started life as a Kickstarter-funded project before making its way onto tables worldwide. Unlike most board games, it's built exclusively for two players, which makes it a razor-sharp duel rather than a group game. The French edition offered here goes further than the original release: on top of the base game, it bundles in the Dark Secrets expansion, with its Investigator cards and extra artifacts, as well as the complete novella The Call of Cthulhu, H.P. Lovecraft's foundational text, all packaged in a soft-touch box with silver foil artwork.

The game was designed by Chuck D. Yager, with moody, evocative artwork by James Daly and Aleksandra Bilic bringing the Old Ones and the crawling horrors of the Cthulhu Mythos to life.
