Codenames: Critical Role Adventures (EN)

Codenames: Critical Role Adventures brings the famous one-word clue game into the world of Critical Role. This version is fully cooperative: one player becomes the game master (GM) and leads the party through perilous missions all the way to the final boss. The GM gives clues, and the other players guess the right words on the grid. Every mission has its own goals and its own rules that shake up classic Codenames, forcing the whole table to adapt and think differently. Ideally, the GM role is passed from player to player between missions.

Your party picks three heroes out of seven iconic characters from Exandria: Vex (and Trinket), Percy, Grog, Jester, Nott, Dorian and Fresh Cut Grass. Each hero has a cardboard miniature, placed on the words during guessing, and a character sheet to track XP, hit points, progression and equipment. By completing missions, you earn XP, unlock personalized abilities and equip items bought along the way. A D20 is included: your heroes must pass their own skill checks for their powers to work well (or at all!). The game unfolds over three separate campaigns made of branching missions, and every new combination of heroes changes the play style.

You will probably enjoy Codenames: Critical Role Adventures if you like clue and deduction games, if you prefer winning together over competing, or if you want the feel of a role-playing campaign without heavy preparation. Critical Role fans will find their favorite heroes, and Codenames players will discover challenges that completely renew the formula. The game comes with 400 themed words.

The heroes in this game come from the first three Critical Role campaigns. The base game includes seven playable characters, and an expansion, the Vox Machina Expansion Pack, adds words, items and one more playable character to extend your adventures in Exandria. A mission lasts about 25 minutes, so you can chain several in one evening.

The game is designed by Vlaada Chvátil, creator of the original Codenames, and Felix Podlesny. The artwork is by David Aghamyan, Štěpán Drašťák and Dávid Jablonovský.
