Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, around 1940, Canasta quickly conquered Argentina, the United States, and eventually the rest of the world. This set brings together two 55-card decks with point values printed clearly on every card, so even newcomers can dive in without wrestling with the math. Around the table, everyone draws, builds melds of same-ranked cards - the famous canastas - and races to empty their hand while slowing down the competition. Tension builds as the canastas pile up and the score climbs toward the magic target of 5000 points.

Canasta is credited to Uruguayan Segundo Santos, who devised it in Montevideo before the rules were standardized in North America around 1950, the version that has since travelled the world. These double decks are made by the Austrian card house Piatnik, a playing-card specialist since 1824.
