Borealis: Arctic Expeditions (EN)

Set off for the far north in Borealis: Arctic Expeditions, a board game that puts you in charge of a scientific expedition sent to the edges of the Arctic. Your mission: observe and photograph the tundra's most adorable creatures, from polar bears to arctic foxes, while coordinating a team of scientists with complementary expertise.

On your turn, you play a card from your hand to one of three spots on your player board to snap a photo, sending your scientists sliding left or right along the track - but only if their color matches the one printed on the card you played. This sliding mechanism, as simple as it is clever, forces you to plan every move ahead so you can line up the right vehicle symbols, race to claim coveted objectives before your rivals, and arrange animals into patterns that pay off big at the final scoring.

Every 45 minute session blends hand management, open drafting, and pattern recognition: objectives change from game to game, and the variable setup guarantees no expedition ever looks the same. Who knows, maybe you will earn a place of honor at the Society for Polar Inquiry... and your very own tiny snow covered island.

Borealis: Arctic Expeditions is for you if you are looking for a light strategy game where every card sets off a chain reaction across the board. The sliding puzzle adds just enough brainpower to satisfy seasoned gamers without ever weighing down this family game, which plays easily from 2 to 4 players, whether with friends or around the kitchen table.

On BoardGameGeek, the community gives Borealis: Arctic Expeditions an average rating of 7.3 out of 10 after several hundred ratings, and voters agree that exploring the Arctic wildlife really shines with 3 players, a count where the race for objectives gets the most intense.

The game is designed by Dariusz Mindur, with artwork by Rodrigo Camilo, Kevin Sidharta, Ines Toczyska, and Ariadna Zytniewska, who give every icy corner of the tundra its own charm.
