Apocalypse turns the traditional trick-taking game into a tense race against the end of the world. Your objective sounds simple: finish the game with the fewest points. Around the table, however, every Rider card played affects the Apocalypse tokens and pushes everyone closer to the moment when the rules suddenly turn upside down.

During a normal trick, players follow the lead suit and the highest card of that suit dominates. But when all active Apocalypse tokens have been flipped, everything changes. The Apocalypse is triggered and the logic of the trick is reversed: the lowest card of the lead suit becomes the winner and collects the cards played. A hand that seemed perfectly under control can suddenly become a dangerous trap.

Special cards create even more tactical possibilities. Chaos lets you manipulate an Apocalypse token and counts as the lead suit, while Tranquility has no value or suit and cannot win the trick. You must watch what your opponents play, carefully time your special cards, and sometimes deliberately trigger the Apocalypse to catch a rival at exactly the wrong moment. After every trick, its winner even chooses who leads the next one, adding another tactical decision to this clever strategic card game.

Apocalypse is a new version of Saika Banrai, a Japanese game originally released in 2023. This edition revisits the concept with a fifth suit, upgraded components, and a new presentation inspired by the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It preserves the heart of the original reverse trick-taking game while giving the experience a refreshed visual and gameplay identity.

Apocalypse was designed by Yoriyasu Harano, creator of the original Saika Banrai. This new edition is illustrated by Sylvain Leroy, whose artwork supports the game's medieval fantasy atmosphere and its five colourful Rider suits.
