*French version
In Ace of Spades (FR), you play a mystic gunslinger tracking down the necromancer who ruined your life. Your path of vengeance leads you to Sweet Haven, Arizona, where Lord Overkill and his infernal minions have taken over the local cemetery. There, among the tombstones and the dust, your weapon is not a revolver: it is a simple deck of cards, capable of channeling fearsome magical power.
This strategic card game runs entirely on classic poker combinations. Pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes and full houses become attacks that deal precise damage to each opponent. Every poker combo matters, and so does every discard: managing your hand becomes a real tactical puzzle as enemies pile up and the threat escalates all the way to the final duel against Lord Overkill himself.
Ace of Spades can be played solo against an ever-tougher string of enemies, or as a two-player cooperative game with a shared hand and deliberately limited communication. That constraint pushes both players to coordinate their choices almost in silence, adding a real dose of tactical duels to every encounter.
You will likely love Ace of Spades if you crave supernatural-tinged western settings, if you are a poker fan, and if you are looking for a demanding solo game that rewards careful thinking and tight hand management. Its dark atmosphere and relentlessly escalating pace make it a very different experience from the usual cooperative games.
Interesting fact: several board game fans have compared Ace of Spades to the popular video game Balatro, since its approach turns poker combinations into a genuine, progressive combat system, a formula still rare on board game tables.
The game was designed by Benjamin Amorin and illustrated by David Rubin, an artist recognized for his dynamic style and his comic book work. His visual world blends gothic western, dark magic and fantastical horror to perfection, carrying the game's infernal atmosphere beautifully.
