Dumpster Dice: the family dice game where duplicates go in the trash
At L'As des jeux, one small dice game is among our best sellers: Dumpster Dice. A handful of dice, a tiny dumpster and one simple rule: every duplicate ends up... in the trash!
If you're wondering what's inside this funny container, who it's for and why it gets such a reaction around the table, here's everything you need to know.
What is Dumpster Dice?
Dumpster Dice is a family dice game for 2 to 4 players. Each player starts with their own supply of dice and tries to fill the spaces numbered 1 to 6 on the dumpster lid. The goal is simple: be the last player who still has dice.
And the box is part of the game! The dumpster-shaped container stores the dice, its lid comes off to become the game board, and the dumpster collects every eliminated die.
How do you play?
On your turn, you roll a die:
- Is the number still open? Place your die on the matching spot on the lid.
- Is the number already taken? Oops! Your die gets tossed into the dumpster and play continues.
As soon as a player places the last number that completes the 1-to-6 set, that player collects the six dice on the board. A new round starts right away, and everyone's supply keeps changing with each roll.
The last player who still has dice wins the game. And once you know the basic rules, the rulebook offers four more ways to play to mix things up.

Who is Dumpster Dice for?
Dumpster Dice is for you if:
- you're looking for a game for kids ages 6 and up, easy to follow thanks to the numbers 1 to 6;
- you want a game you can set up and explain in no time;
- you love very short games: 5 to 10 minutes;
- you often play with two, three or four players;
- you like games where a roll that seemed ordinary can turn everything around.
It's also a great pick for quick, spontaneous games: before supper, between two longer games, or when you only have a few minutes.
Why is it so much fun?
Because every roll creates a little suspense. Only two open spots left? Everyone holds their breath to see if your die finds its place... or lands in the dumpster.
Because nothing is ever decided. Dice move from one player to another every time a set is completed. Someone who seemed to be losing can grab six dice at once and get back in the race.
Because the box is part of the game. The lid becomes the board and every duplicate drops into the little container. Even the youngest players see right away what's happening.
Because it's quick. At 5 to 10 minutes a game, the rematch practically starts itself.
